In Retrospect

This Blog Entry has its origins in a barn find. a 2006/2007 Neglected forgotten old lady in much need of TLC. She is a Scorpio 2.6 Tdi GLX with 239000km behind her back.

Fitted with two new front Disks, Two new Rear Shocks and a few odds and ends she passed road worthy with the expected glitches and hick ups.Hand Brake Cable, Some Globes and Hand Brake Adjustments.

Never the less she was fit to become a active member of the commuting society once again.

Okay it was not all that easy. Major Electrical faults. Some one spliced into the loom and did not deemed it necessary to solder the connections. They where badly eroded and corroded.

After fixing this problem it was almost smooth sailing. Spend many man hours is scrubbing down the leather seats dash and with a soft nail brush the head liner was gently brushed down. All the seats and carpets was removed and she got a waxing all the way to bare metal. All this was time consuming. but left her smelling and looking like a young bright new flower.

The Drive
In the Station Wagon/SUV model of her age it is very bakkie like. "Trokkie" The robust feel brings it's own comfort and securities. Driving speed is comfortable between 90-110. From 120 she becomes noise and the steering very sensitive.

She handles well on dirt road with the front heavy engine, but is no high speed boy racer. All in all a very comfortable reliable working horse.

Spares And Services
The Agents stock most service parts, but with samples at your nearest spares dealer you will not have problems finding matching components. Agents prices varies very little with the prices of local spares shops on most components.

Trouble Shooting
Always keep the Radiator filler bottle full. Regularly check diff and gearbox oil. Like every 5000km or so.

Future Prospects
It is definitely worth the effort to look into these vehicles as a company, family or leisure vehicle.
